When we started The Happy Pig Pancake Shop in Amsterdam in 2014, we were on a quest to find that real, authentic Dutch pancake flavor—the taste we remembered from home, when our mothers and grandmothers used to make pancakes. After lots of experimenting and testing, we finally found The Taste.

Organic, vegan and gluten-free Pancakes

From the very beginning of The Happy Pig Pancake Shop, we decided to use only animal-friendly and organic ingredients. We also chose to serve our pancakes rolled up—just like we used to eat them as kids. And we’re proud to be one of the first Dutch pancake spots to offer vegan and gluten-free* options.

We also wanted to create a warm and welcoming place in Amsterdam—not just to serve the best pancakes, but where everyone would feel at home. We must’ve done something right, because since day one, The Happy Pig Pancake Shop has welcomed thousands of guests every year—from locals and day-trippers to international tourists. We’ve even been featured in magazines around the world, including in Japan!

There’s something on the menu for everyone — vegan, non-vegan, gluten-free, sweet or savory. I went for a vegan pancake with apple filling and lemon-sugar topping. It was so good (you’d never guess it was vegan!) and huge! Can’t wait to come back and try more flavors.
